The Barrier

The fence isn't imaginary,
You created it, years ago,
A demarcation, a boxed dream,
A gate to keep you safe,
From betrayal and pain.
Now you can't get out,
No matter how much you try,
Day after day, struggling to escape,
But the thoughts bounce off,
The patterns repeat, re-emerge,
Reiterating the hurt,
The refusal, the anger, the fear,
Till freedom seems impossible
From this cage that courts you in.

But the chaotic wind, decides to blow,
Caught unawares, everything flies,
Unbridled, unknown, unrestrained,
Into the world again.
And you wonder, how you will,
Ever find your way back,
Into anything ever again?
