Amber

Image
I followed its scent, Into the woods; The leaves and moss, Disguised the waylaid path, Of jasmine growing under And berries in the wild. Hauntingly, seductively, It called me deeper, Where the rock meets the river, Where the air hardly breathes I tried to reason, I said, no, I cannot find you anymore Let me go back into the sun Senses seldom believe What the mind foresees So onwards I went, Bone tired, arms covered in nettles The sweet perfume kept calling me Till I heard the deafening waves Swooning, thirsty and drunk I knew it lay in the deep I left the trees and jumped into the sea Salt was all I smelt, I was the amber The amber was me.
