The Barrier

The desire to fly,
without boundaries,
you look at the kite,
and aspire that flight,
gliding effortlessly,
without fear, without struggle,
day after day,
and one day, you spot it,
the miniscule insect,
beside its giant predator,
so you watch them both
and wonder who is more fearless,
the predator
or the prey, who knows very well
it will not outlast the brief
flight of freedom, and yet
takes the risk,
only because the flight
is higher than the end,
it forsees next to itself.
And you remember
who you've been,
shuttling between the two...
So, now you're stoic and happy,
but you're also detached.
The hurt you cause is your own
and you remember how it felt
to be a dragonfly in another life,
but now, you say you're sorry,
but you don't have a choice.
The wings have grown,
and your need to fly
is much more,
Kites and dragonflies
can't communicate
anymore,
they may see the same horizon
but for one, it is home,
the other a conquest.
